Tetsutaro Kamatani Japanese, b. 1979

Tetsutaro Kamatani (b. 1986, Japan) is a Tokyo-based contemporary artist known for his intricate mixed media works that reinterpret traditional Japanese aesthetics through a sharply contemporary lens. Drawing on sources such as Nehan-zu (Nirvana paintings), folklore, and Rinpa school motifs, Kamatani constructs surreal worlds where mythology, modernity, and ecological collapse converge. His work invites viewers to question spiritual hierarchies, cultural memory, and the artificial beauty of the Anthropocene.

Kamatani has exhibited extensively in Japan and internationally. He is exclusively represented in the United States by Pellas Gallery.
